Squash - Ladies 1st Team Win Surrey Cup!

Published: 24/03/2017

Ladies top Surrey Division 1 while our men come a close second!

At a nail biting end to the 2016/17 Surrey Cup season, the ladies team beat St George’s Hill ladies 4-0 away last night to take maximum points and haul in Wimbledon Racquets over the final two matches of the season.

Needing a challenging 13 points from a maximum 15 available, Sally opened by playing her best ever squash to win 3-1 followed by Sarah who dominated her match with a 3-0 victory.

Emma also played without fault and won 3-0 leaving Emmeline, loudly supported by three generations of her family, the task of gaining a single point. This she dutifully achieved, winning 3-1 against talented opponent Harriet Ingham who sadly retired injured.

There was excellent away support from the club for the ladies including a very welcome Womble, worn by an anonymous club official (see photos)!

Well done to the ladies who get “bragging rights” (thanks Stevie) over the Men’s team who sadly could not beat an impressive Colet’s side losing 1-4 in their final match and leaving them in an admirable second place in their first year back in the top flight of Surrey league squash.

The men’s 2nd team are also fighting for top place in Division 3 and their final home match, also against Colets (we are 17 points behind with 19 points to play for), has been re-arranged to Thursday 23 March.

With two other men’s teams competing in Surrey leagues, these excellent results show that The Wimbledon Club is one of the top squash clubs in the county. But we all know that, don’t we?!
